LiNK (which stands for Liberal Network) was created in 1999, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Institute for Economic Studies which has organized summer seminars for students in economics, philosophy, law and history since 1989 throughout Europe.
LiNK is the IES alumni association and its goal is, as its name implies it, the constitution of a network of liberals throughout Europe and beyond. For, being a liberal also means feeling responsible for the dissemination of liberal ideas.
One of the leading principles at LiNK is perseverance. Many young students or professionals give up too rapidly their desire to reach a better understanding of the world we live in and, at the same time, they give up their desire to implement better solutions. They have to fight for themselves, for their studies, their new jobs, and no time is left for maintaining a broader view of society. To persevere, one needs to feel some sort of support. At LiNK, the support comes first from the feeling that we are not alone. There exists a network of young liberals--often friends--willing to learn more and to get involved, if only through discussion and exchange of ideas.
LiNK is also a network through which you can get information coming from all over the world and different from the daily news one receives at home: information about new initiatives taken by individuals who care about liberty, information about recent economic and political developments. LiNK is also the possibility to meet at least every two years to listen to, and discuss with, senior researchers.
And LiNK is finally whatever its members will use it for; briefly, it has a huge potential.
